Rich, son of Richard and Patricia Mader was born in Connellsville, PA in 1969 and moved to California in 1982. He took up cycling as a tean in 1984 and then came back to it after college and marriage in the 90's. In 1999 he started competing in endurance events. He worked his way up to one of the premier endurance events in the US, the Markleville Deathride, which climbs over the California Alps. He started racing in 2004. Rich is married to his wife Heather and has four children, Emily 15, Colleen 13, Ben 9, and John 7. They are his greatest supporters.
